As many as 27 others sustained injury in the blast which occured early Friday, September 30th in the Dasht-e-Barchi neighborhood of western Kabul, a predominantly Shia Muslim area, according to Afghanistan police spokesman, Khalid Zadran.
Confirming the incident, Afghanistan police spokesperson, Khalid Zadran said:
“Students were preparing for an exam when a suicide bomber struck at this educational centre. Unfortunately, 19 people have been martyred and 27 others wounded”.
Bloodied victims being carried away from the scene were seen in the videos posted online and photos published by local media.
Girls and boys with high school diplomas who were taking a simulated university admission test at the Kaj education center when the explosion occurred were among the deceased, according to Zadran. Fridays are generally a day off for Afghan schools.

One out of the 27 wounded student said the victims were mostly females.
The male student relayed the infomation to AFP news agency from the hospital where he was being treated saying;
“We were around 600 (students) in the classroom, but most of the casualties are among girls.”
Responsibility has not been claimed by any group immediately.

In current years, the Dasht-e-Barchi neighbourhood has witnessed some of the worst attacks in Afghanistan.
Before the Taliban took control in 2021, three bombs erupted near a school in Dasht-e-Barchi, killing at least 85 people, predominantly female students, and injuring over 300 more.
Six people were murdered and 20 others were injured in two devastating bombings that occurred in the region in April of this year at two different schools.
