Early Life

On January 9, 2002, Mr. Frimpong and Mrs. Ante Marie were blessed with the arrival of their son, Black Sherif. He was born in the town of Konongo in the Ashanti Region of Ghana, where he is originally from.

His parents decided to give him the name Mohammed Ismail Sherif Kweku Frimpong only a few days after he was born. Sherif Frimpong was raised in a Muslim family, and his parents have instilled that religion in him.

Black Sherif spent his formative years in the Konongo area, which was known as a slum at the time. As a result, he was exposed to the harsh realities of life that were prevalent in the neighborhood he lived in. This, in turn, had an influence on the kind of music that he produced in his latter years.

He spent his childhood listening to Afrobeat music produced by musicians from Nigeria and Ghana, which was broadcast on the radio. The result was the development of an appreciation for music. The beginning of Black Sherif’s career as a musician can be traced back to his early adolescent years when he began to create freestyle rap songs to the acclaim of his friends in the neighborhood and classmates at school.

He was a frequent competitor in the talent shows that were held in Konongo, and he was a familiar presence at the events that were held at his high school, where he would captivate the crowd with a musical performance. In a short period of time, he rose to prominence as one of the most well-liked adolescents in Konongo, and word of his notoriety quickly traveled across the rest of Kumasi.

Black Sherif was a terrific dancer when he was younger, and he toyed with the notion of becoming a professional dancer at one point in his life. But he gave up the objective to pursue music, his first passion.

In Kumasi, a public primary school provided Black Sherif with the education he required to graduate from elementary school.

His secondary school education was completed at Kumasi Academy, and he graduated from there in 2019 with strong marks on his West African Schools Certificate Examination.

Black Sherif’s love for music only became stronger as he got older, and he always had aspirations of making a living as an artist. Early on, he came to the conclusion that he wanted to create Afrobeats music, but he also wanted to include elements of Trap and Grime music, both of which he was skilled in. He stood out from other aspiring musicians because of the distinctiveness of his musical approach.

Sherif didn’t start honing his sound until he was in his senior year of high school. He would use the time he had to himself to write songs and go to a recording studio located nearby to have them recorded.

Since then, he has been consistently producing hit songs, and he is now riding the wave of his popularity.
