Biography

A rising talent in the world of Afrobeats, Mohammed Ismail Sherif Kweku Frimpong is a musical phenomenon hailing from Ghana. He was born on January 9, 2002.

The young music maestro is a rapper, singer, and composer, and his stage name in the industry is Black Sherif. He is also known for this moniker. The track “First Sermon,” which was released in 2021, was the catalyst for his rise to prominence.

When he released Second Sermon, which was then followed by a remix with Burna Boy, he won himself some serious worldwide success.

Early Life

On January 9, 2002, Mr. Frimpong and Mrs. Ante Marie were blessed with the arrival of their son, Black Sherif. He was born in the town of Konongo in the Ashanti Region of Ghana, where he is originally from.

His parents decided to give him the name Mohammed Ismail Sherif Kweku Frimpong only a few days after he was born. Sherif Frimpong was raised in a Muslim family, and his parents have instilled that religion in him.

Black Sherif spent his formative years in the Konongo area, which was known as a slum at the time. As a result, he was exposed to the harsh realities of life that were prevalent in the neighborhood he lived in. Education

Black Sherif was successful in being accepted to the University of Professional Services so that he could study Statistics. However, in order to further his education, he moved to Ghana and enrolled at the University of Ghana. He is beginning his first year of study at the institution right now.

Career

Black Sherif’s love for music only became stronger as he got older, and he always had aspirations of making a living as an artist. Early on, he came to the conclusion that he wanted to create Afrobeats music, but he also wanted to include elements of Trap and Grime music, both of which he was skilled in. He stood out from other aspiring musicians because of the distinctiveness of his musical approach.

Sherif didn’t start honing his sound until he was in his senior year of high school. He would use the time he had to himself to write songs and go to a recording studio located nearby to have them recorded.

After completing his secondary education in 2019, Black Sherif released his first song under his own name, titled “Cry For Me.” Sherif’s ability was exposed to a broader audience thanks to the success of the song, and others working in the Ghanaian music business started to take notice of his abilities as a musician as a result.

Nevertheless, it was the song “Money” that propelled him to the forefront of public consciousness. Money, which was initially released in 2020, quickly became Sherif’s signature song, propelling him to stardom in Ghana and other regions of West Africa. Since then, he has been consistently producing hit songs, and he is now riding the wave of his popularity.

When Black Sherif released the song “First Sermon” in 2021, he caused a massive disruption in the African music business. The tune helped catapult the young rapper into the spotlight all throughout the continent. He continued his run of success by putting out the follow-up song, which was titled, Second Sermon.

Second Sermon had more sales than its predecessor, First Sermon, and opened the door for future collaboration with Burna Boy, who won a Grammy. At the Entertainment Achievement Awards ceremony that took place in 2022, the outstanding rapper Black Sherif was able to take home the prize for Entertainment Personality of the Year.

Black Sherif was victorious in three different categories at the 3Music Awards in 2022. These include Hip Song of the Year, Breakthrough Act of the Year, and Hiplife/Hip-hop Artiste of the Year.
