Ugbekile David Osemeke, born on May 10, 2001, is a promising newcomer to the Afro-fusion music scene thanks to his record contract with Mavin Records.
David, better known as Boy Spyce in the music industry, was introduced to the public on April 14 as the newest member of the Mavin Records roster.
Twenty-four hours following the announcement of his agreement, he released his first EP, Boy Spyce.
Dreams, Wayo, Destiny, Nobody, and Bad Things are the five tracks that make up the EP. At the moment, Boy Spyce has more streams than any other project in Nigeria.
Spyce Boy was born and raised in Lagos State. He was raised in Isolo, a well-known neighborhood on Lagos Island, namely in the Jakande Estate neighborhood.
On May 10, 2001, he joined his parents Mr. and Mrs. Ugbekile as the newest addition to their family, taking the name David Ugbekile Osemeke.
Edo State is in the South-South, and Boy Spyce is a native of that state. In all, there are eight members in his family. He’s the youngest of five brothers and sisters and the family’s final kid.
Music has always been a passion for Boy Spyce. He grew up listening to Nigerian Afrobeat and Hip-Hop musicians and was profoundly impacted by their music. A love for music and a desire in making a living in the field was sparked in him by his exposure to tunes on the radio.
During his early school years, Boy Spyce studied in a prestigious private preschool and elementary school in Isolo.
When it was time for him to finish high school, he enrolled in Lagos Model College in Kankon, Badagry. Having earned high marks in the West African Certificate Examination, he graduated from the school in 2017.
He is a student at a well-regarded institution, working on a degree in accounting.
Boy Spyce got his music career started by posting online cover versions of famous songs he had recorded himself. Because of his reliability in releasing covers, he gained a sizable following on social media. Many viral videos featuring Boy Spyce’s singing helped spread the word about his incredible voice.
2019’s Weather For Two is Boy Spyce’s first official single as a performer.
Beyoncé, Wizkid, Blue Ivy Carter, and SAINt JHN’s Brown Skin Girl was covered by Boy Spyce on July 29, 2019. He released a cover of Davido’s “Jowo” on March 30, 2021. On April 19, 2021, he released his version of Forever by Gyakie. Additionally, on March 24, 2021, he covered Essence by Wizkid and Tems, which became an online sensation.
Don Jazzy, CEO of Mavin Records, heard some of Boy Spyce’s work and was impressed. The record label CEO took pity on the young musician and extended an invitation to study at Mavin Academy. Don Jazzy was able to hone his voice and develop his songwriting chops under Boy Spyce’s tutelage after enrolling at the school. The artist started recording the tracks that would eventually become his Extended Play during this period.
His time at the school paid off when Mavin Records gave him a record contract and welcomed him into their family. On April 14, 2022, the record company debuted Boy Spyce. After the news of his signing broke, he promptly issued a debut EP in accordance with the label’s custom for new artists.
In keeping with another family custom, his first EP is also named after him: the Mavins. Rema, Ruger, Ayra Starr, and Magixx were some of the other label mates who had debuted with EPs bearing just their own names.
The signing of Boy Spyce comes months after Mavin’s newest act, Magixx, was introduced to the public. Boy Spyce is the label’s second signing in the space of six months.
There are 14 minutes of music on Boy Spyce’s EP. Titles like “Dreams,” “Wayo,” “Destiny,” “Nobody,” and “Bad Things” may be found on the album. On April 15th, 2022, the music video for the song “Nobody” was made available. Master of music video directing TG Omori filmed and directed this clip.
