Death toll now six in Imo family tragedy

The death toll from a 12-member family discovered unconscious in a room of their home in Obinze village, Owerri West Local Government Area, Imo State, on Monday morning has increased to six.

The sixth victim, Kingsley Oguzie’s wife, died on Monday night at Imo Specialist Hospital in Umuguma, Owerri, where they were brought for emergency medical treatment.

While Oguzie, his son, a two-year-old child, and another adult were declared dead at the hospital upon arrival, another person died hours later before his wife died late Monday.

Mrs. Oguzie lost the fight on Monday night, according to our writer, who visited the hospital on Tuesday.

Some of the casualties were still on life support machines, while others had partially recovered consciousness, according to our source.

Medical professionals were ministering to the victims while relatives milled around the facility.

When our journalist visited the family residence and the town of Obokwu in the Obinze community, it was vacant.

While the family’s house was shut and no neighbors or relatives could be seen, no one in the community would speak to our correspondent except one guy, who merely said, “Policemen just arrived here now, locked the compound, and left.”
