The COVID-19 pandemic began in December 2019 and impacted the entire human race. During this period, not only were we forced to stay home and work from home as much as possible, but we were also told to avoid seeing our loved ones to prevent the disease from spreading.

Thanks to this, people around the globe had to look for new ways to do things. This included things like staying in contact with family and friends and shopping for daily essentials. As well as this, it also included shopping for less critical items such as clothes, furniture, and homeware.

One way people did this was by using the internet. In addition to using the internet to keep in touch with their family, people also used it to do their shopping. In fact, research suggests that online shopping in Egypt increased by a whopping 940% during the pandemic as people did everything they could to avoid catching the deadly bug.

While COVID-19 is no longer thought to be as dangerous as it once was, meaning people no longer have to shop online, evidence suggests that people in Egypt still choose to do most of their shopping online. In fact, in 2020, a Mastercard Study found that 72% of Egyptian consumers were now shopping more online than previously. But why is this? Keep reading below to find out more:

They Can Find Better Deals Online

One of the main reasons Egyptians are choosing to continue shopping online is because they can find better deals this way. From discount codes to coupons and offers, there are several different types of deals available to Egyptian shoppers who shop online.

One example of a discount is the Jumia coupon codes, which can be used on a considerable number of different products, including phones and tablets, men’s fashion, and supermarket products. These coupon codes can save Egyptian shoppers a tremendous amount of money.

They Have More Choices Online

When you walk into a shop, you are greeted with limited products to choose from. However, when you search online, many more options are available. Thanks to this, people prefer shopping online as it allows them to find the most suitable product at the best price.

Many Egyptians Have Upskilled Since the Start of the Pandemic

Another reason Egyptians are shopping online more now than at the start of the pandemic is that they used their time off during the pandemic to upskill. Evidence shows that 4 in 5 Egyptians used their downtime to upskill.

Some of the new skills they learned included banking online, learning how to cook using online tutorials, and learning how to dance online. As well as this, they have also learned how to stay safe when shopping online. People now feel more confident shopping online than before.

Evidence suggests that online shopping in Egypt was becoming increasingly popular way before the pandemic began, particularly with young Egyptians. However, it is clear from the research that the pandemic forced even more people to shop online. And unfortunately for shop owners, this is unlikely to change anytime soon.
