In the Nation newspaper article, the federal government said in a news conference that the flood tragedy which has led to the loss of lives and property can only be reduced with compatible financing that would reach 30 years.
However, in a statement given in a Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, conducted by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Wednesday, October 26, Engr. Suleiman Adamu, Minister of Water Resources, gave an account that he made a speech to the Council unitedly with the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development.
Engr. Suleiman Adamu said that
” notwithstanding the early warning system in place, a lot of capital-intensive initiatives still need to be done in the future to avert the consequences of flood disasters.”
Engr. Suleiman wrote that the financing that would prevent floods is not obtainable under one administration, he also wrote that floods cannot be stopped but can only be trivialized by the government.
He also said that
“the present administration is already working on a flood management master plan that will take at least three years to complete.”
The Minister who claimed that many flood casualties turn a blind eye to warnings by depart also condemned tree felling and reduced soil for the huge impact of this year’s floods in the country.
