Bola Tinubu is now officially recognized as the 2023 presidential election victor by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

At the International Conference Centre in Abuja on Wednesday morning, INEC Chairman Yakubu Mahmood proclaimed Tinubu the poll winner and president-elect.

The election for president was conducted on Saturday throughout the 36 states of the union and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

Violence, logistical issues, the theft of BVAS, and other problems caused the election to be postponed until Sunday in some voting places across several states.

State collation officers for the presidential election (SCOPs) delivered the election results to the INEC chairman at the National Collation Center following collation at state INEC collation centers.

Mahmood declared that Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos State and the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, had won the election with the majority of the ballots cast in Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The APC candidate polled 8,794,726 votes to defeat fellow contenders – Atiku Abubakar of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) who polled 6,984,520 votes, Labour Party’s Peter Obi had 6,101,533 votes to come third and candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) Rabiu Kwankwaso with 1,496,687 votes.

Tinubu, Obi, and Atiku each took 12 of the 36 states and the FCT, while Kwankwaso only prevailed in Kano State.

Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Kwara, Benue, Rivers, Borno, Zamfara, Jigawa, Ondo, Kogi, and Niger State are the 12 states that Tinubu gained.

Taraba, Osun, Akwa Ibom, Adamawa, Kaduna, Sokoto, Yobe, Bayelsa, Kebbi, Bauchi, Gombe, and Katsina were gained by PDP candidate Atiku.

Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo, Anambra, Abia, Delta, Edo, FCT, Plateau, Nasarawa, Lagos, and Cross River were among the regions that Obi won.
