Biography

Chinedu Okoli, better known by his stage name Flavour, is a Nigerian Afrobeat music icon who was born on November 23, 1983. The musical group is additionally known as Flavour N’abania.

He plays multiple instruments and sings and writes songs. Following the release of the track “Nwa Baby,” he gained attention on a global scale (Ashawo Remix).

Flavour founded the 2nite Music Group and has seven commercially successful studio albums to his credit.

Early Life

On November 23, 1983, Flavour was born into the family of Mr. and Mrs. Okoli. They gave him the name Chinedu Okoli. Benjamin Okolie is the name of his father. Additionally, he has a brother named Okolie Chidera Emmanuel, a.k.a. DJ Derekz.

He is from the Igbo tribe and is from the southeast of Nigeria. He was raised in the state of Enugu. But Umunze, in Anambra State’s Orumba South Local Government Area, is where he was born and raised.

Flavour was raised in a Christian home and grew up going to a Pentecostal church. When he joined the choir of his local church at the age of thirteen, his musical career had its start. Before mastering other instruments and transitioning to other roles, he began as a drummer in the choir.

Career

When Flavour was still a teenager, he started playing the drums professionally. His first position was with an Enugu-based regional band. He was proficient on both the piano and both instruments, playing both for the band. Following that, he was given the chance to perform at City Center in Enugu.

In 2005, he published his first studio album, N’abania. While he was a client of the record company Obiano Music, the project was made public. When compared to other parts of Nigeria, the record was quite popular and fared well in the southeast.

Flavour spent time honing his songwriting talent and perfecting his sound since he wanted to break into Nigeria’s mainstream music business. Following a five-year break,

In 2010, he issued his Uplifted studio album, his second. Uplifted, in contrast to its predecessor, had commercial success throughout Nigeria and Africa. The album, which was published by Lolhiphop Records, contains popular songs including Nwa Baby (Ashawo Remix), Adamma, and Oyi Remix with Tiwa Savage.

Flavour has produced four more commercially successful studio albums since he first gained notoriety. Blessed, his third album, was made available in 2012 via 2nite Entertainment. It has been referred as as his largest and most successful endeavor to date.

He released the 22-track Thankful album in 2014. Hit songs like Ololufe (with Chidinma) and Wake Up can be found on the album (featuring Wande Coal). Thankful for the favorable reviews from critics and the widespread success in Nigeria, as well as other areas of the globe.

In 2017 and 2020, respectively, he released his fifth and sixth studio albums. Ijele, the first project, has 17 tracks, while Flavour Of Africa, the second, has 16 tracks of music.

In addition to Phyno, Diamond Platnumz, Fally Ipupa, Larry Gaaga, Theresa Onuorah, Pete Edochie, Semah G. Weifur, P-Square, Umu Obiligbo, Zoro, Biggie Igba, Waga G, and many more, Flavour has collaborated with them all.

In 2014, Flavour received the African Muzik Magazine Awards for Best Traditional Artist and Best Video Of The Year.
