During a heated argument, an Inspector of Police in Abia state has been shot dead by his colleague who is also an Inspector in Umuahia, the state capital.
The police officers reportedly belonged to Hon. Ginger Onwusibe, a member of the Abia State House of Assembly represents the Isiala Ngwa North State Constituency.
The spokesman of the state police command, Geoffrey Ogbonna, confirmed the incident by saying that the victim, Inspector Ugwor Samuel, was shot dead by his colleague, Inspector Atule Benedict, both from SPU base 15, Anambra State, but attached to Hon. Onwusibe.
Information has it that the two officers had gotten into a fight about an unspecified matter before one was shot to death.
After the incident, attempts to take weapons from the assailant police inspector, who was said to have gone violent, threatening to kill anybody who came his way as he fled, failed.
A source revealed that the suspect made his way with his AK-47 rifle to an unidentified destination, but later turned himself in at the SCID Umuahia, where he is being detained.
According to the police spokesman, the erring policeman is now in custody while the deceased body has been deposited in the mortuary. He asserted that the state’s CID Umuahia was looking into the situation.
