It was gathered that on Sunday, April 25, 2023, two of the Chibok girls who had been held captive by Boko Haram for 9 years managed to flee from the Sambisa forest.
The two escapees identified as Hauwa Mutah and Esther Markus, are from Chibok and Dzilang villages respectively.
However, there are now 96 rather than 98 Chibok schoolgirls who are still being held hostage.
Boko Haram kidnapped 276 girls from the Government Secondary School in Chibok on 14th April 2014.
In the most recent report of Colonel Obinna Ezuipke, despite the fact that 178 of the Chibok girls have been saved or released, 98 of them are still being kept hostage by Boko Haram.
The source said,
“One is from Chibok and the other one from Dzilang village. Out of the 276 abducted Chibok girls, 57 girls escaped in 2014 while 107 girls were released in 2018.
“Three girls were recovered in 2019, two in 2021 and 9 were rescued in 2022, bringing the total of 178 girls out of captivity and 98 remaining in Boko Haram captivity.”
