A man known only as Akpos is the subject of an active manhunt by the police in the state of Lagos. He is suspected of having caused the murder of his wife, Risikat, by setting fire to their home on Ayide Osolo Street, Divine Estate, which is located within the Ijanikin neighborhood of Lagos State.
According to those who allege to have seen what happened, Akpos and Risikat were arguing at their apartment when it took place. Matters deteriorated to the point when Akpos went grabbed their gallon of gasoline, emptied it on his wife, and afterward set fire to her. He subsequently set fire to himself. After coming to terms with the seriousness of his behavior, Akpos ran away from the situation and has remained to hide ever since.
Risikat was brought to a local hospital by her neighbors, but despite undergoing treatment for her serious burns, she passed only a short time later.
SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesman for the state police command, has said the following in confirmation of the incident:
“A case was reported at the Ijanikin Police Station that a woman, Risikat, 48, allegedly had an altercation with her husband and in the process, he poured petrol on his wife and set her ablaze.
It resulted in serious bodily burns and she was immediately rushed to a hospital for treatment but she died. Efforts are on to arrest the fleeing husband.”
