NIS the Nigeria Immigration Service has handed over a 17-year-old girl to NAPTIP apprehend in Oyo State in Kebbi purportedly on her way to Libya.
In Yauri Local Government Area of Kebbi, the girl whose name is unknown was travelling alone when she was apprehend by immigration personnel.
Mrs Rabi Bashir-Nuhu, the Immigration administrator in the state, made this known while informing pressmen in Birnin Kebbi.
Mrs Rabi Bashir-Nuhu said despite the fact the girl said she was travelling to Sokoto,
“we have the belief that she is being trafficked to Libya to be used for labour exploitation, prostitution, or organ harvesting.”
Bashir-Nuhu futher stated that the girl was arrest at Yauri border on Nov. 26, alone, thereby raising doubt about her movement.
The girl told the Immigration Service that she was sent by her mother to meet one mr Zainab in Sokoto, who, how-ever, claimed to be ill when invited to the Immigration office in Kebbi, according to Bashir-Nuhu.
Bashir-Nuhu also said that,
“This made us to believe that the girl was a victim of trafficking; she has no document, has nothing and not even a penny,”.
The administrator said
“It was disheartening that in spite of warnings by NIS and its partners, parents still allowed their children to undertake such perilous journeys”.
Alhaji Misbahu Iyya-Kaura, after welcoming the victim, National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), the state Commandant, said the agency will look into the matter.
Iyya-Kaura also states that human trafficking was an organized crime that required immediate efforts to contain.
He commended NIS to cooperate with the agency to stop human trafficking in Nigeria.
