A suspect have been apprehended by Palestinian authorities over the murdering of a gay man who was found beheaded in the occupied West Bank.
Information has it that the victim Ahmad Abu Marhia, 25, had been receiving death warnings because of his sexual identity.
The appalling video of the murder scene was generally shared on social media.
Ahmad Abu Marhia had spent the last two years residing in Israel where he was awaiting his asylum claim to live abroad in Canada. LGBT groups in Israel revealed.
The same groups said that he had continued to get death threats from people in the neighborhood where he lived.
Currently, It is still unclear on how he ended up in Hebron, a Palestinian city in the southern West Bank.
Moreover, his family said he visited Hebron frequently to see them and to work. They also said the assertions about the aim of his murder was false.
In many areas of Palestine, homosexuality is condemned. Around 90 Palestinians who identify as LGBT are requesting refuge in Israel.
Natali Farah, a LGBT activist, told Israel’s Haaretz newspaper that Mr. Abu Marhia was popular and liked within the LGBTQ community.
In her words, She said:
‘He was intelligent and quiet. Many people knew him. The whole community is crying now.’
‘Everyone is scared.’
