Police arrest Anambra LG chairman suspended from office over death of his wife

In connection with the passing of his wife, Chidiebere Iloka, Mbazulike Iloka, the chairman of the Nnewi North Local Government Area’s Transition Committee, who had previously been suspended by Governor Chukwuma Soludo, has been taken into custody.

Less than a week after his wife died, he was dismissed from his position as chairman of the local government area by the state government on charges of wife abuse that may have contributed to her demise. The troubled chairman, though, has refuted the allegations, claiming that he didn’t strike his deceased wife. He said that while giving him lunch, she tripped, fell, and banged her head on a concrete wall.

Accused of culpable murder, the suspended chairman, also known as Mba Mba, is reportedly being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka, Anambra State.

While announcing his detention, the Anambra State Police command spokesman urged the public to exercise patience because the autopsy will determine the precise cause of the wife’s death.
