Yemi Alade, a Nigerian Afro Pop musician, has been named Spotify’s ‘EQUAL Africa Artiste’ for January. Spotify is an internet streaming service.

In a statement released on Monday in Lagos, Phiona Okumu, Spotify’s Head of Music for Sub-Saharan Africa, said this.

According to her, the Spotify EQUAL Africa initiative aims to provide female artists the tools and resources they need to further their careers and engage with fans throughout the globe via various playlists.

She claims that the recipients also get off-platform coaching and resources to assist them to advance their musical careers even further.

“The 2023 season of Spotify’s EQUAL Africa program has begun with a focus on multi-talented Nigerian performer Yemi Alade.

The most recent artist to join the roster of talented musicians on the EQUAL Africa playlist is Alade, a prominent female Afro Pop performer in Africa.

Yemi Alade is a gifted performer who has already established a strong position in the music business.

Spotify expressed interest in displaying her ability to a larger audience and collaborating with her to define her success further.

Alade was no stranger to the limelight, according to Okumu, having released four albums, an EP, and hit songs including “Johnny,” “Shekere,” “Africa,” “oh my god,” and “Bum Bum,” among others.

She claimed that her performances have lighted up stages throughout Africa, Europe, and America, performed for the British Royal family among others while still being a success on television.

Her blockbuster hit track Johnny, which is now the most-watched video by an African female pop diva ever, has garnered over 100 million views on YouTube and VEVO, making Alade the first female Afro-pop star from Africa to do so.

She claimed that Alade was a numerous award winner as well, having won the 2015 and 2016 MTV Africa Music Awards for best female artists and being a multiple BET and MOBO Award nominee.

She said that in addition to acting and serving as a UNDP Goodwill Ambassador, Alade also runs her own nonprofit organization, the James and Helen Pathway Foundation.

In response, Alade said: “It’s a fantastic moment to be living; the number of female artists has doubled since ten years ago.

In this heavily male-dominated sector, fair chances are the only thing we are asking for right now.

In the world of music, there are no barriers based on gender; all that exists is potential, creativity, and pure enchantment. We should all have equal opportunities to be noticed and to have our skills exposed.
