Temilade Openiyi, better known by his stage name Tems, is a musician from Nigeria who is active in the fields of songwriting and record production. On June 11, 1995, she was born in Lagos to a mother from Nigeria and a father from the United Kingdom.
Tems claims that music is her safe haven and the one and only thing that can make her feel at ease in her own skin. Therefore, it was to be expected that she would pursue music.
When she was about 13 years old, she made the choice to plunge headfirst into the world of music. She had already come to the conclusion that she was talented in the field of music at the time, and she had described it as something that comes easily to her during an interview.

Tems and another Nigerian singer named Omah Lay were detained by the authorities in Uganda in December 2020 for performing live in the country at a show that disobeyed the Covid-19 prevention regulations imposed by the government. The show was held at a venue that was located in Uganda. The two individuals were held in detention by the police for a period of two days before being released.
