The management of the Agete Luxury Hotel in Abuja, FCT, has denied any involvement in the death of a 21-year-old woman in its room.

On February 26, 2022, the deceased, named as Esther Isaac, was discovered dead in one of the hotel rooms under suspicious circumstances.

Emmanuel, Esther’s brother, had accused the hotel administration of hiding up the fact that their CCTV was malfunctioning on the day Esther checked in.

Mr. Babajide Iletogun, the hotel’s communications consultant, released a statement on behalf of the hotel’s management, saying that although it lamented Isaac’s loss, it was unjust for anybody to accuse it of cover-up or complicity in the terrible incident.

“As can be seen from the above, the allegations of Agete Hotel’s culpability in Esther Isaac’s death are not only unjust but also the scent of a deliberate effort to blackmail our hotel.” Indeed, the deceased’s brother’s assertion that Agete Hotel promised him N500,000 to keep knowledge of his sister’s murder hidden is a reckless and purposeful fabrication.

“Nothing could be farther from the truth, since he was never promised anything like that.” It’s also worth noting that the hotel’s CCTV has been malfunctioning since January 2022, despite our experts’ best attempts to fix it prior to the occurrence. In response to the allegations, Iletogun said, “The hotel administration could not have purposefully denied anybody accesses to it as insinuated by the deceased’s brother.”

Despite the avalanche of inquiries and speculation, the hotel’s management claimed it remained silent because it needed to join the family and friends in mourning the dead, as well as allow the authorities to continue their investigations.

It said that on Friday, February 25, 2022, two visitors, a male, and a female, entered the hotel in the morning and occupied room (901) which was booked by the man, Chukwuemeka Michael, who paid the amount of N9,000 as the room payment. He stated the news broke when one of the porters who was checking out visitors reported that rooms 908, 910, and 901 had not responded. He said that the body was located unresponsive on the bed following multiple efforts to get entry to the residents.

He stated the incident was promptly reported to Gwarinpa Police Station, which responded and discovered the lady’s dead corpse. At about 10 p.m., the police carried the body to the morgue at Kubwa General Hospital, according to Iletogun.

“However, we join the family and friends in mourning a precious life gone much too soon, and as a socially responsible business organization, we will continue to assist the Police and authorities in conducting and carrying out their investigations on this subject,” he said.
