After being shared online, footage of a New York Police Department officer hitting a woman hard in the face during an arrest has been trending.
According to the tabloid website called TMZ, the incident happened in Harlem on the 12th day of August. A group of cops was sighted in the midst of a crowd, trying to apprehend a man in relation to attempted murder.
When the arena became more turbulent, a cop was sighted trying to shove a woman away from the mob, and she pushed him back. The action triggered the police officer to hit the woman hard in the face who then fell backward to the walkway.
People at the scene were astonished by the action and one man was heard shouting at the cop, “Why would you do that?!”
Although It’s not asserted if she fell unconscious, shortly after, the officers assisted her to stand and she was handcuffed.
Responding to the argument that followed the footage, the NYPD portrayed it as self-defense. The police department uttered
“While police were effecting the arrest, multiple individuals on scene interfered by physically assaulting numerous officers. One officer sustained a minor injury to the head.”
However, two women were allegedly charged with assaulting a cop, resisting arrest, and restricting governmental administration. One out of them was further accused of foreboding and harassment, and the third woman was charged with spitting at a cop.
