Two Nigerian women have been apprehended for assaulting a police officer and constituting a public nuisance in Bengaluru, India.

According to the Times of India, the women hit the cops on Brigade Road after he attempted to pursue them away, saying it was ill-timed at night for them to be galavanting in the arena.

Moreover, the Nigerian women purported that the cops had accused them of ‘imploring for customers.’

The incident happened at 1.30 am on Monday, August 29, 2022, when attendees were preparing to return home after restaurants and bars started downing shutters.

The assistant sub-inspector Venkataramana and head constable Nagaraj, both attached to Cubbon Park station, were on night-patrol duty in a Hoysala vehicle, the Police said.

They arrived at Brigade Road around 1.30 am and discovered four Nigerian women hiking in an intoxicated manner and constituting a “nuisance” by harassing passersby. The police halted their car and asked the women to vacate the arena.

Moreover, a quarrel broke out as two of the women thrashed the officers, accusing them of being ill-mannered.

Eyewitnesses which include trishaw drivers and food-delivery boys clustered and started videoing the incident.

The two women claimed that the officer had accused them of soliciting and behaving unruly. Things got out of hand when the women descended blows on the lathi-wielding constable and pushed him aside.

However, the cops informed Ashoknagar police station about the blitz, and extra personnel, including a female sub-inspector, arrived at the spot. The two women were taken and detained at the police station.

Later on, they were subjugated to a medical examination, which verified they were tipsy.

Nagaraj was taken to Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital and was given inpatient medication.

According to the DCP (central), R Srinivas Gowda he said the police initially filed a case against the two women under Karnataka Police Act for constituting a public nuisance and later charged them with preventing cops from carrying out their duty.
