A grieving husband has claimed that doctors at a hospital in Port Harcourt killed his pregnant wife and their infant baby.
When Johnny De Goodman drove his wife to the hospital on November 6 to give birth, the doctor informed him that she was just 5 cm dilated and therefore that she needed to be 10 cm dilated before being transported to the labor ward.
He stated that on the morning of November 7, the doctor had warned him that if the operation wasn’t done, there might be issues since the baby was already in discomfort and had defecated within the womb.
He added that while both he and his wife had approved the operation, his wife have still not been brought in to undergo the procedure an hour later.
He said the doctor informed him that the other medical professionals who had to be present for the procedure were not there when he inquired.
He said that at 6 am, he saw the doctor signing over to another physician and upon asking, was informed that the physician’s shift was over. He was also advised by the doctor that his wife may not need surgery.
After the first doctor stated she required surgery immediately, it took more than three hours before his wife was ultimately brought in for surgery at 8:30 am.
By 11 am, he said he learned that his wife’s heart had stopped beating after the administration of medicines to prepare her for the operation.
He cited the physicians’ “carelessness, incompetence, and cruelty” as the cause of the deaths of his wife and infant.
