According to Chinese state media, on Friday, September 16, a huge fire outbreak enveloped a skyscraper allegedly housing China Telecom in the city of Changsha, with hundreds believed to be blazed to death.
In accordance with reports, the total number of casualties is yet to be known but videos trending on social media highlighted the extent of the catastrophe showing dozens of floors blazing.
” Chinese state broadcaster, CCTV reported.
“Thick smoke is spewing from the site, and several dozen floors are burning ferociously.
Municipal reports had it that people were cleared from the building, which is about 200-meters high. China Telecom is a huge, public-sector enterprise hiring hundreds of thousands of staff. The number of workers at the Changsha tower is unknown and state media says the number of casualties is not clear yet.
During press time, the fire has been quenched but a part of the building looks completely blazed out, as thick, black smoke continues to cloud into the sky.
Changsha, the capital of China’s Hunan province has an estimated population of 10 million residents.
