[Details] vocalist D’banj apprehended and detained over fraud

Oladapo Oyebanji, better known by his stage name, D’banj, has been apprehended and detained over fraud by the Nigerian Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission, (ICPC).

The singer was apprehended and detained on Tuesday 7 December 2022, after the ICPC corps converged on him, forcing him to surrender himself at the agency’s command center in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, this was reported by PREMIUM TIMES.

informer said D’banj has been avoiding the invitation by the corps for weeks now, pretending to be overseas for booked concerts any time he was invited to come for questioning over fraud claims.

Meanwhile, the musician was charged with fraudulently diverting hundreds of naira kept by the Nigerian government for the N-Power project, an empowerment program set up by the Nigerian government in 2016 to address youth unemployment and increase social development.

inspectors Investigative claims that D’banj connived with some conceded government officials to introduce ghost beneficiaries into the payroll of the scheme. The wage paid to those beneficiaries is then paid to accounts that have now claimed to be connected to the pop star.

The Reasons Behind The Detain Of Singer D’banj

The ICPC sought to arrest the artist anywhere in Nigeria and overseas after he repeatedly declined invitations to appear for questioning; as a result, he was forced to appear at the commission’s headquarters on Tuesday.

D’banj was held following a protracted questioning that began when he arrived. Officers denied his request for administrative bail because they believed the singer could not be entrusted to appear at his hearing if granted on bond.

According to our informants, the ICPC may request the court for a prolonged detention order on Wednesday so that it may finish its investigations before bringing the singer to justice.

Azuka Ogugua, the ICPC spokesman, was unable to be contacted for clarification regarding this story. She reportedly travels overseas for a project. The singer could not be approached for a remark since they were both in custody.
