ENDSARS Memorial: We have no record of shooting – Lagos PRO, Benjamin Hundeyin comments on reports of protesters being shot at 

SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson of the Lagos state police command has disagreed with the reports that gunshots were fired at protesters marking the 2nd anniversary of the EndSARS Lekki shooting on Thursday.

Recall that some Nigerians including rapper Falz and actor Mr. Macaroni, staged a memorial walk along the tollgate on Thursday to commemorate the deaths that occurred two years ago on October 20, 2020, at the #EndSARS protest, when security personnel allegedly opened fire on unarmed, peaceful protesters who had gathered at the toll gate.

There was an outburst of commotion when tear gas canisters were fired as well as water canons by the police.

Responding to the uproar by Nigerians, Hundeyin revealed that the teargas canisters were fired because some of the Nigerians organizing the memorial walk made the decision to break the law and began mounting the toll complex. According to him, tear gas canisters were shot to disperse them since their behavior threatened the existing law and order.
