I was orphaned. Buhari admits, “I didn’t know my father.”

President Muhammadu Buhari said that he had been an orphan since he was a little child and had never met his father.

The president said, in a speech delivered on Tuesday, January 10, at an APC campaign rally in Damaturu, Yobe State, that he did not know who his father was and that he had spent nine years at a boarding school getting the knowledge he needed to enroll in the Nigerian Army.

“Make sure you send your children to school and make them realize that anything you have in this world may be stolen from you except the information you have in your mind,” Buhari told the gathering while speaking Hausa.

He continued: “I was an orphan and had no idea who my father was. I attended a boarding school for nine years, and as a result of [my] education, I joined the Nigerian Army.”

He went on: “I urge you to grow in faith and do your best to protect the family that God has given you, including your children. Don’t breach that confidence.”
