Liverpool pushed the Premier League title chase to the final day of the season with a 2-1 comeback win over Southampton, thanks to goals from Takumi Minamino and Joel Matip.
The win puts them one point behind Manchester City heading into Sunday’s final fixtures of the season.
In the 13th minute, Nathan Redmond sprinted half the length of the field before curling a shot into the top corner to give Southampton the lead, putting their title ambitions in jeopardy.
After quick passes from Joe Gomez and Diogo Jota, former Southampton loan player Minamino equalized from a tight angle.
Jota and Harvey Elliott both squandered chances to put Liverpool ahead early in the second half, but they were awarded a crucial three points when Matip headed in Konstantinos Tsimikas’ corner.
Liverpool is in second place with 89 points, while Southampton is in 15th place with 40 points, six points ahead of the bottom three.
