Man kills son after he spotted him playing with his mates 

In Kyome/Thaana ward of Mwingi West county of Kenya, the police officers have apprehended a middle-aged man for hacking his son to death.

The man known as Mwendwa Mboo, is recently being detained at Migwani police station for using an axe to murder his 14-year-old son Mumo Mwendwa who he spotted playing with his mates after he sent him to the river to fetch water.

The wife of the accused who works in Kibwezi, Esther Mwendwa, said she was not present at home when the incident happened and that she was told by acquaintances about her son’s demise. She also asserted that her husband is a drug addict.

In her words, Esther said;

“His father had sent him to fetch water, instead Mumo went to play with friends.

“He hacked him to death using an axe and knives.“

Esther also unveiled that a month earlier, her husband hit their son on his head and badly injured him.

She said;

“My son died a very painful death. I plead with the government to intervene and ensure justice is served.”

The cousin to the deceased, Florence Muli, said the incident happened at around 11:00 pm on Sunday night. She further stated that before the suspect attacked the boy, he locked the house from inside .

Benard Mwangangi, the suspect’s elder brother, stated that on the same night, he heard a lot of commotion coming from his brother’s residence and believed it was his brother’s usual practice of thrashing his son.

He said that most people even feared visiting the suspect’s resident because of his hostility.

Mwangangi said;

“After hearing him yell, I immediately heard his son Mumo screaming for help.”

Mwangangi was later heard exchanging words with his brother (the suspect) who was insisting that he wanted to kill his son.

However, when Mwangangi arrived the house, he found the 14-year-old boy lying in a pool of blood and the victim tied with ropes by the angry mobs awaiting the arrival of police officers.

He further stated that the suspect’s wife had been living in fear following several insidences of domestic violence.

The chief of area, Grace Mwikali Muli, confirmed the incident by asserting that the man is presently detained at Migwani Police station pending more investigations.
