A 40-year-old man was given the death penalty after it was claimed that he strangled his sweetheart to death because she ignored him on Valentine’s Day.
According to reports, on February 15, 2016, the inmate, known as Badung David Dele, killed his sweetheart, Nanchin Zacharias, at her apartment in Angwan Nasarawa Gwom, Jos, after declining his offer to go out on Valentine’s Day.

After the prisoner attempted to make amends with the dead and extended an invitation to Valentine’s Day date, but she turned him down, this happened. The following morning, Dele allegedly entered the deceased’s residence to seek an explanation since he thought their relationship was breaking down.
The inmate allegedly grabbed his sweetheart by the neck and strangled her till she passed out after they were unable to come to an agreement. Then, disguising his departure as a trip to the pharmacy for a sick buddy, he left the area.

Then he handed Mama Joy, a neighbor, his phone number so she could call him in case of an emergency. Mama Joy broke into the deceased’s apartment after smelling something fishy and discovered she was asleep. Dele admitted to conducting the heinous murder when she asked for aid, and he was caught in the process.
After being detained by the Nasarawa Gwom Divisional Police Headquarters, Jos, he was later found guilty of culpable homicide, punishable under section 221 of the Penal Code of Northern Nigeria, by Justice Christy L. Dabup of High Court No. 11.
