So Sad – Former Governor of Anambra State, Chinwoke Mbadinuju, Dies At 78

Chinwoke Mbadinuju, the ex-governor of Anambra State has passed away.

According to a statement unveiled by his first son, Chetachi Mbadinuju, it disclosed that the elder statesman passed away on Tuesday morning, April 11, at the National Hospital Abuja after a brief illness.

The statement reads;

“With heavy hearts but utmost gratitude to God for a life well spent, we announce the passing of our father, grandfather, uncle, friend, and associate, Dr. Chinwoke Mbadinuju, a former governor of Anambra State and elder statesman.

ODERA as he was fondly called, passed peacefully at the age of 78 years on the morning of the 11th of April, 2023 at the National Hospital Abuja after a brief illness, surrounded by his family and loved ones.

At this trying time, we pray for God’s grace and mercy upon him and those left behind to mourn him. His funeral arrangements will be announced in due course by the family.”

Mr. Chetachi, a lawyer, said the patriarch died at the age of 78.

Mbadinuju, who was reputed to be a kind-hearted man, ruled Anambra at a time when the state was going through its most intense period of political unrest.

In 2003, a gang-up by the political godfathers of Anambra cost him the fight to become the state’s governor once more.

His time was marked by instability in politics, including homicides, the devastation of public institutions, and labor unrest, the majority of which were allegedly planned to hurt him politically and prevent him from being reelected.
