Cash scarcity: Residents of Osun regret not being able to withdraw money after the election

Osun residents are still whining about being unable to access cash at different banks.

The majority of locals had expressed optimism that there would be money available for them to withdraw at their banks following last Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections.

Some of them have argued that the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) decision to redesign the naira was made mainly to stop politicians from receiving money in order to purchase votes during elections.

The majority of customers visited their banks on Monday and Tuesday with the hope that the central bank would have made cash available for commercial banks to distribute to their clients, according to research by The Six9ja.

However, many of them were unable to take money more than 48 hours after the polls closed, neither from the bank counter nor at Automated Teller Machines (ATMs).

When Osogbo residents visited their banks, they reported that some of them were only available to handle reports and other customer service-related matters, while others weren’t even open.

In separate conversations with The Guardian, a few bank customers demanded that the Federal Government and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) release money for them.
